Abbott, having received FDA clearance, is releasing its budget-conscious FreeStyle Precision Neo blood glucometer. The device is available for purchase without a prescription. Costing around $25 for the unit and about $15 for 25 test strips, the device should allow diabetics on a budget to keep a closer eye on their sugar levels.
Nevertheless, while being a cheap glucometer, the Freestyle Precision Neo comes with some high end features that include a touchscreen E-Ink display (think Kindle), an internal memory that stores up to 1,000 readings, and a quick five second test time. Plus, the test strips don’t require coding, so the glucometer is effectively ready to go straight out of the box.
