Teleflex just announced that its brand new Percuvance Percutaneous Surgical System has been used for the first time in a surgical procedure at Cleveland Clinic. The device allows the use of a 2.9 mm shaft to operate 5 mm interchangeable tools and exchange them outside the body with ease.
The system works by positioning a trocar through which tools are exchanged and inserting the 2.9 mm shaft nearby. The shaft is aligned with the trocar and when pushed through the opening, the instruments can be attached and exchanged extracorporeally. This leaves only a tiny mark on the patient’s skin following the operation, while letting the surgeon use full size tools.
The device recently received both FDA clearance in the U.S. and CE Mark approval in Europe.
