DePuy Synthes, part of J&J, has just released its new GRYPHON Anchors with PROKNOT technology for arthroscopic repair of shoulder and hip instability. The hybrid anchor is a combination of traditional and knotless anchors, providing the benefits of both.
Because the device is pre-knotted, it offers the strength and control of traditional anchors. Yet, since the knot can slide to any position, the anchor is as easy to use as a knotless one. Moreover, the knot can be tightened further as the surgery necessitates.
From the announcement:
“GRYPHON PROKNOT was stronger than any other arthroscopic knot/suture combination we tested and is more reproducible than surgeon-tied arthroscopic knots,” said Paul J. Favorito, MD, an orthopaedic surgeon at Wellington Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio, who conducted a study and performed comparative testing on the new technology. “This technology also offers incremental tensioning of the knot for a precise repair
The GRYPHON PROKNOT Anchor is indicated for use in Bankart and SLAP lesion repair, capsular shift or capsulolabral shoulder reconstruction and hip capsular and acetabular labral repairs. It is available in non-absorbable PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) or proprietary, absorbable BIOCRYL® RAPIDE® Material.
