Withings, the French company that’s gotten famous for making
smart scales, cellphone connected blood pressure cuffs, and other health monitoring devices, is releasing an interesting new product for the home that features a novel health related feature. The Withings Home is a wireless camera that can be used for video conferencing, keeping an eye on sleeping children, and as a security device, What we found interesting is that it also includes a sensor able to detect volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the air, along with the temperature and humidity.
VOCs are released from paints, new furniture, and a bunch of other sources and can cause respiratory distress, allergic reactions, and other conditions. The Withings Home will raise a warning when it detects unusually high levels of these compounds so you can open the windows, turn on a fan, and go outside for a walk around the block while wearing an activity monitor.
