Medtronic just announced that its CoreValve Evolut R System received CE Mark approval in Europe. The 23mm valve comes with its own EnVeo R delivery system that is capable of recapturing the valve back into the catheter for repositioning if the original placement isn’t ideal.
The system comes with the lowest profile sheath on the market, at only 14 Fr equivalent, which is less than 1/5 of an inch.
Features of the CoreValve Evolut R according to Medtronic:
- First-Time Positioning Accuracy: Coupled with the EnVeo R Delivery Catheter System, the Evolut R System has an intuitive handle with 1:1 response during valve deployment, which allows for accurate positioning on the first attempt
- Recapture & Reposition Capabilities: If needed, the CoreValve Evolut R System is designed to provide the option to recapture and reposition the valve during the deployment phase
- Lowest Delivery Profile: The new InLine Sheath significantly reduces the profile of the catheter shaft to the lowest on the market (14 Fr equivalent, less than 1/5 inch); a smaller size profile is believed to minimize the risk of major vascular complications
- Exceptional Valve Performance: The new valve is anatomically designed to increase conformability at the annulus for optimal annular fit and sealing, while maintaining a supra-annular valve position for improved hemodynamic performance
