Many years ago everyone young and old learned that one day you can fall and not be able to get up. Custom devices have been sold for use at home that can call emergency operators that would summon help. These days nearly everyone it seems has a smartphone on hand, so Philips just released an app that works almost identical to the old method, but anywhere where there’s a cell signal.
The Lifeline app costs $14 a month to subscribe to, and simply launching the app and pressing the connect button puts you in touch with an operator that can connect you to family members, neighbors, or call emergency services. The app automatically shares the phone’s location information with the operator, which can help an ambulance find you in a jiffy.
