Having recently introduced their concept of using Google Glass in the operating room, Philips and Accenture have been working on a proof-of-concept for using an EEG reader to give severely disabled people control of their environment. The two ideas are rather similar, as they give users an ability to manipulate things that otherwise can’t be touched, whether because a surgeon’s hands need to stay sterile or because paralyzed people simply can’t use their own hands.
In particular, the collaboration is focusing on helping ALS (Lou Gehrig’s) patients in advanced stages of the disease maintain the ability to do things like turn on lights and TV, and maybe even operate a computer cursor.
