Evaluating the motion of the spine and activity of the muscles involved in its movement can be important in diagnosing back conditions and for following up on treatment. Yet, quantitative data can be hard to obtain, so an Australian company called dorsaVi has developed a newly FDA approved system for evaluating the activity of the lower back.
The ViMove consists of four sensors that are attached to the lower back. Two of them measure movement of the spine and the other two detect muscle activity in the vicinity. A device that looks like an old school mp3 player is used to record the data coming from the sensors and to provide feedback.
