The people have spoken and they have selected AventaMed as the winner of MedTech Idol at IN3 Dublin. 36 medical device startups applied for the competition produced by RCT Ventures, with ten being selected as semi-finalists. A panel of investor judges selected 4 finalists to present in front of a live audience who then voted on the winner. As a prize, AventaMed gets a presenting slot at the IN³ Medical Device 360° Summit in San Francisco. They will also be profiled in Informa’s monthly magazine START-UP: The Review of Emerging Medical Ventures.
AventaMed’s product is a low-cost, disposable device that can place a tympanostomy tube in under one second in the outpatient setting. Currently, it requires scheduling a costly surgery with anesthesiologists, nurses and surgeons. The product has tremendous cost and time saving potential in a $5.4 billion worldwide market for a procedure that is performed 2 million times per year.
