Not so long ago when some of us were still in medical school, we had to learn dynamic things through books with static pictures and explanatory text. Xvivo, a company we’ve covered numerous times before, has been working with Harvard University’s BioVisions project on developing animations that explain biology at the microscopic scale. They released a video a few years ago describing the activity inside a cell, but kept the proteins out of the picture since their density would make the other components of the cell nearly impossible to see. Now the collaboration has unveiled a new animation of the insides of a cell with the proteins included, a task that required a lot of powerful computers to simulate and render a lot of data.
