At the ongoing Annual Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Meeting in New Orleans, Cayenne Medical out of Scottsdale, Arizona just announced a launch of its Mirror partial knee replacement system. The implant is surgically introduced using a new unicompartmental procedure, hopefully restoring confidence in this approach among orthopedic surgeons. The Mirror system doesn’t require CT or MR imaging of the knee to prepare cutting guides, and overall equipment cost was intended to be lower than with other knee replacement devices.
During the cutting process, the leg’s own natural motion is used to guide the drill so that the cut fits the anatomy rather than requiring adjustment after the cut.
