Mega Electronics (Kuopio , Finland) has received FDA approval for the eMotion ECG Mobile, an Android-based continuous electrocardiography monitoring system, MobiHealthNews has reported. The system contains a sensor with three electrodes which the user wears under the clothes. Weighing just 16 grams and measuring only 35mm x 35mm x 15mm, the technology was designed to be comfortable enough to be worn at all times, even during sleep. Unlike competing products which take readings intermittently, the sensor continuously transmits the readings via Bluetooth to a mobile phone. The readings are then uploaded to a secure server for real time viewing or analysis.
If the eMotion ECG Mobile detects an arrhythmia, it will automatically send an alert along with the GPS location of the patient over the mobile network to ensure immediate treatment to prevent further deterioration and possibly save the patient’s life. Giving patients the flexibility to continuously monitor their heart rate outside the confines of a clinic will also be a huge benefit to hospitals and caregivers, allowing them to watch over a larger population more effectively in terms of cost and resources. The sensor battery life can last up to 27 hours when connected over the Bluetooth network, and takes only one hour to charge.
eMotion ECG Mobile already has CE Mark approval for commercial distribution in Europe.
