When Medgadget originally started publishing daily on developments in medical technology, like many sites we offered the opportunity for readers to leave comments. While we have always felt that open comments can provide an opportunity for meaningful discussion, the reality was that too many trolls, disgruntled patients, and random self-promoters turned our comments into a useless mess. A number of years ago we removed commenting on Medgadget, but recently we discovered a new system that we hope will make our comment section more effective, will allow our readers to form social connections, and will reward serious commenters for their contributions.
It’s called SolidOpinion and works on a points system, letting users build a reputation that provides them more features and control as they participate over time. Anyone can comment, but first-time users will be moderated, while those with an accumulation of points will earn expanded features and even gain certain moderator powers.
Comments will appear at the bottom of every post, like this one and you can try the system by scrolling down.
We hope you will participate and we can have constructive discussions about medical technologies, the future of medicine, and anything tangential that has an impact on the world of medtech.
