ECG is a powerful tool in diagnosing cardiac conditions, but infrequent visits to the doctor are the only opportunity to receive a screening. Portable ECG systems such as the AliveCor and ECG Check are single lead devices that can help diagnose arrhythmias, but not ischemia, infarction, and other problems. MobilECG Laboratories Ltd., a new company, is raising money on Indiegogo to help bring to market a consumer ECG that has the capabilities of much more expensive 12-lead clinical grade systems.
The idea is that patients would be able to do their own ECG recordings at home that they’d easily share with their physicians for review, saving physicians’ time and offering patients more comfort and the ability to do testing during regular activity. By simplifying the electronics and using any computer as the display for the output and storage of data, MobilECG plans to release a product by next summer in the $300 range, and you can help by pre-purchasing.
