Couples trying to conceive a child often end up seeking all kinds of assistance and advice, including from fertility specialists and all kinds of more questionable experts. In reality, one way to improve the chances is for the couple to engage in sex starting a couple days before the woman is ovulating, but knowing when that is often less than obvious. Some women have a very regular cycle, while others need help finding out the optimal timing.
Fertility Focus Limited, a Warwick, UK firm, has received FDA 510(k) clearance for its OvuSense device that helps identify when ovulation is occurring. It does this by monitoring the rising body temperature that occurs in response to ovulation. The device is inserted into the vagina before going to sleep and removed upon waking. Through the night, it records the internal temperature and in the morning the data is transferred to the main console which displays the readings. It will also do its best predicting when the next ovulation cycle will commence.
