Germany’s Fraunhofer-Institut für Angewandte Informationstechnik (Applied Information Technology) FIT presented a new smartphone system at BIOTECHNICA 2013 that can allow people to monitor a number of useful health parameters without going to the clinic. The package includes a nano potentiostat capable of detecting glucose, lactate and levels of cholesterol, a pulse oximeter, and a fluorescence sensor for detecting color tagged biomarkers.
The three sensors, each having its own data protocol, interface with the phone where the information is compiled and can then be sent to a physician for review.
