Smith & Nephew is now making available in the U.S. its new DURAFIBER Ag antimicrobial gelling fiber dressing. The dressing contains both a gelling fiber filler that absorbs exudates, and anti-microbial silver particles to control infection, hence the “Ag.”
The dressing stays strong when wet and resists shrinkage
Features of DURAFIBER from the product page:
• High wet strength: Cellulose fibers give the dry and gelled matrix built-in structural integrity
• Excellent absorbency: Gelling fibers swell and gel on contact with exudate absorbing and locking in fluid
• Minimal shrinkage: Reinforcing fibers retain the dressings shape when wet, minimizing shrinkage
• Highly conformable: Transforms into a soft, cohesive gel sheet which contours closely to the wound bed
