Cochlear Inc. has unveiled its latest cochlear hearing aid following CE Mark approval in Europe of the Nucleus 6 sound processor. The device has the ability to recognize the type of sound environment you find yourself in and automatically chooses between the company’s proprietary SmartSound iQ algorithms, so you can move from one setting to another without fiddling with any controls. The system can connect to Bluetooth equipped audio devices like computers and TV’s, so you can stream music or movies directly to the implant. As a matter of fact it can pair with two Bluetooth devices simultaneously for listening to news on TV and working on a computer, for example.
The Nucleus 6 is water resistant, features the smallest processor in the industry, performs regular data logging for review by an audiologist, and most importantly the covers are available in a dozen funky styles if you’re the type to show off your gadgetry.
