BIOTRONIK, a name commonly associated with implantable cardiac pacemakers and defibrillators, has been in the humble business of making vascular guidewires since 1997. Continuing its development of these devices, the company is now releasing its new Galeo Pro line of guidewires that feature a stainless steel core that provides the strength and durability necessary to treat multiple lesions using only one guidewire. This new capability should allow for quicker procedures while providing greater confidence and control when snaking through complex vasculature.
Thanks to the Controlled Transmission Platform technology within the device, which according to the company “facilitates direct connection between your hand and the distal tip,” physicians are promised excellent torque control and steerability during guidewire delivery. The hydrophilic coating on the wire also helps improve control by letting the clinician feel the frictional forces at the tip rather than along the length of the device.
