Codman Neuro, part of J&J, won the CE Mark for the new version of its REVIVE SE clot removal device. The tiny self-expanding basket made out of a nitinol mesh is designed to reach inside vasculature in the brain to retrieve a thrombus blocking an artery. It can also be used to remove thrombi and emboli with aspiration, as well as with injected contrast agents. The REVIVE SE can be delivered via a 0.021 micro-catheter and promises excellent passage through vasculature.
The original product was approved in Europe back in 2011, but neither has yet received FDA clearance.
