AB SCIEX, Framingham, MA, announced CE approval for their API 3200 MD series of mass spectrometers. Mass spectrometry is the new revolution in routine diagnostics as more and more laboratories now offer protein and biomarker analysis at high speed for low costs.
With tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) the order of amino acids can be determined and proteins can be sequenced. This technique is already available in many research laboratories, but it is slowly moving to the diagnostic side of many labs. All sorts of organic and inorganic compounds can be identified from human specimens and very low-level concentrations of compounds can be picked up with great accuracy.
Rainer Blair, President of AB SCIEX was cited in the press release:
“The use of LC/MS/MS technology for clinical diagnostics has already been proven to deliver faster, more accurate results at lower cost compared to existing technologies. Now, we are bringing these benefits to Europe in a way that will simplify and accelerate adoption of this powerful technology.”
The 3200MD compact benchtop systems are ready for continuous high-throughput operation and compatible with barcode reading workflows. It can be connected to laboratory information systems (LIS/LIMS) and fits easily into the workflow of any clinical diagnostic laboratory.
The API 3200MD and 3200MD QTRAP LC/MS/MS systems are expected to ship in Europe by mid-June.
