Next week at the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in Chicago, Surgionix out of Auckland, New Zealand will be launching its SLICK drill bit. The device combines a traditional bone bit with a depth gauge that allows orthopedists to combine two steps and save a bit of time during procedures.
A wire that runs through the bit’s grooves acts like a hook to grab to the opposite side of the bone. Indicators on the sleeve behind the drill bit provide a readout of bone depth.
