Cambridge Consultants is touting a new dry powder inhaler that the firm helped to design for Chiesi, an Italian pharmaceutical company. The NEXThaler, as the device is called, automates dosing and delivery of asthma medication to make it easy and nearly mindless for patients to stay on their regimen.
When the cap of the NEXThaler is opened, the device prepares a precise dose for delivery. The user then simply breathes in and, once proper air flow is reached, the inhaler releases the prepped drug and it’s inhaled. By closing the cap, a counter decrements the number of available drug doses left in the inhaler.
The NEXThaler was just initially launched in Germany, with the rest of the European market to follow.
