One of the latest companies getting a startup boost at Blueprint Health is IntelligentM, a firm that developed a novel way to monitor hand washing compliance by hospital personnel. The system combines a few existing technologies, like RFID tags and built-in accelerometers, to track when and how properly clinicians wash their hands.
RFID tags intelligently placed throughout a hospital identify locations where those wearing the tags are prone to be contaminated, such as bathrooms, patient rooms, and ORs. Once a clinician exits the area, the wristband will vibrate as a reminder to wash one’s hands. Moreover, once hand washing begins, an RFID tag placed near the sink recognizes that fact and accelerometers within the wristband measure the vigor of your lathering technique.
