The Fraden Corporation, headed by Dr. Jacob Fraden, famous for helping develop the technology behind Braun’s Thermoscan Ear Thermometer, is unveiling a tiny new contact-free thermometer module for smartphones. The infrared camera of the device measures 5x5x5 mm in size, making it possible for use in next generation smartphones, and has a range of -22°C to 400°C (-30°C to 200°C), so it can be used to check for fever in kids and the turkey in the oven.
Based on the pic provided, it would seem that the technology should provide the option of selecting different spots in the scanned region to measure the temperature of, making it particularly useful for mobile medicine.
