Fitbug is introducing a new activity tracker, the Fitbug Air, that uses Bluetooth 4, aka Bluetooth Smart, to interact with smartphones and tablets. Inside it’s a standard tracker that uses an accelerometer to detect the kind of physical activity the user is participating in.
Data from the Fitbug Air is uploaded to your choice of device (iOS for now, with Android to follow soon) where coaching advice is offered to motivate more activity. Because the system uses the new low energy Bluetooth 4 standard, the device can go without a recharge or battery replacement, for months at a time.
From the product announcement:
Fitbug Air gives users the choice of three wireless modes:
(1) Push: Syncing on demand at the press of a button,
(2) Beacon: Fitbug Air automatically syncs at regular intervals throughout the day,
(3) Stream: Enable the Air to ‘talk’ to your smartphone in real time, allowing you to view your progress as you walk. Streaming enables a unique ‘Walking Zone’ feature that lets users see their walking speed and optimize their pace on-the-go, to help achieve the best health benefits.
Fitbug offers the Air and a full 12 months of access to the premium personalized health and wellness coaching services for either an upfront plan of just $64.99, or for a lower up-front cost and total flexibility, users can purchase the Fitbug Air with the ‘Flexi Plan’. For only $29.99, plus only $3.99 per month, members will receive their Air plus access to Fitbug’s online coaching services (no contracts or tie-ins). All Fitbug services are included – there are no additional upgrade costs. With personalized weekly targets, meal plans, online communities and support, weekly newsletters, and even a free replacement battery and Fitbug screwdriver included, the Fitbug Air truly is the best value among online activity tracking and device programs. The new Fitbug Air comes in three colors — cool grey, hot pink, and plum purple.
