The good folks at Gizmodo recently had an opportunity to try out an interesting device that was designed to address the pain and itching due to mosquito (and other bug) bites. The Therapik does this by delivering heat to the bite mark, denaturing proteins involved in the inflammation. It works on a 9V battery, is easy to use, and actually has FDA approval.
Gizmodo found it surprisingly effective, alleviating the itching and the pain while reducing the welts themselves. The only downside: it’s ugly. But at $13 a piece, that’s almost expected. In any case, it’s not meant to be a fashion statement and Star Trek fans might actually appreciate the look.
