Ethicon Endo-Surgery obtained FDA clearance for the HARMONIC ACE+ Shears that feature the company’s Adaptive Tissue Technology, an improvement over the previous HARMONIC ACE model. Surgeons can use the device to perform dissections, sealing, transections, and otomy creation.
The innovative Adaptive Tissue Technology adjusts the power that the generator delivers by detecting the tissue type that the shears are in contact with. To help the surgeon be aware of the energy being supplied, the generator produces an audio tone that varies with delivered power.

“I like how the Adaptive Tissue Technology senses and responds with improved energy delivery and the generator tone changes,” said Paul Kemmeter, MD, Bariatric Surgeon, Grand Health Partners (Grand Rapids, MI). “It makes me feel very comfortable knowing that the optimal amount of energy will be delivered consistently each time.”3
