The New Scientist recently interviewed Adam Sadilek of the University of Rochester regarding a Twitter monitoring system he and his team built that supposedly predicts one’s chances of getting sick with the flu. The software analyzes the content of tweets and where they’re coming from geographically, noticing instances that mention symptoms of illness. The frequency and concentration of such tweets is then translated into one’s risk of getting infected while spending time in the danger zones.
