Siemens has received FDA clearance for its MAGNETOM Spectra, a new budget-friendly 3 Tesla MRI system. The Spectra is designed for easy and efficient operation at minimal costs. This already starts with installation costs, which have been kept low through a small footprint and fast setup. Further contributing to its cost-efficiency, the MAGNETOM Spectra is very conservative with energy usage and the magnet-cooling helium is contained in a closed loop, preventing the gas from escaping and reducing the need for refills.
The system employs Siemens’ Tim (Total imaging matrix) 4G technology, with which up to 120 elements in combination with 24 RF channels may be used. This makes it possible to image large anatomical areas like in full-body scans (up to 205 cm) in one examination without patient or coil repositioning. DirectRF provides digital-in/digital-out design for minimal signal loss between the coil and the system.
The scanner is equipped with Siemens’ MRI workflow solution Dot (Day optimizing throughput), which provides step-by-step guidance throughout the examination. Furthermore, DirectConnect provides cableless coil connections and AutoPosition enables automatic accurate iso-center positioning without the laser marker at the push of a button.
