Reading the pages of Medgadget, one might get the idea that paper is an extinct commodity in modern hospitals. Yet, physical paper records and printouts are still used throughout the industry, often hand-in-hand with electronic medical records, a combination that often complicates things further. A new tabletop scanner from Panasonic aims to help address this challenge by scanning all sorts of documents that would otherwise be a challenge to digitize.
Clinics that require patients to show identification and insurance documents can just throw the set into the scanner and it will process everything, even rigid small objects like driver licenses. Additionally, multi-page printouts such as those produced by traditional ECG machines can be scanned as one large document, preserving it as one unit for easy viewingon the computer.
