Dr. Thomas R. Frieden, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, spoke at TEDMED 2012 about his experience harnessing medical data while heading New York City’s fight against tuberculosis epidemic in the 1990s and later as Commissioner of the New York City Health Department. He argues for extensive monitoring of the population for disease patterns to help analyze what actions actually help stop and prevent disease.
