Tangent Medical out of Ann Arbor, MI recently unveiled its NovaCath Secure IV Catheter System, a device designed to improve peripheral IV catheter stabilization and reduce the potential for clinicians being exposed to patient blood.
The closed system includes the catheter, high pressure extension tubing, multi-use flow control clamp and stabilization components.
Unique built-in stabilization features provide 360° of advanced stabilization of every single IV start. Innovative design transforms the pre-attached extension tubing, lateral stabilization arm and stabilization platform into a flexible stabilization frame.
Designed to preserve catheter integrity by minimizing catheter movement and reducing catheter dislodgement.
Unique internal 180° fluid path turn eliminates external “J-Loop” and create low profile design. Soft, ergonomic catheter hub supports high conformity to a variety of different insertion sites and patient populations.
Designed to improve patient comfort and reduce overall IV complications including dislodgement, infiltration, phlebitis, and occlusion.
Closed system design minimizes occupational exposure to blood while providing both primary flash visualization and secondary flash confirmation through the integrated extension tubing.
Extension tubing and dual vented flash chambers allow pre-priming of extension set without disruption to primary flash visualization.
The company is currently seeking FDA clearance before bringing the device to market.
