InControl Medical of Brookfield, Wisconsin received FDA clearance for its InTone device, a muscle stimulator that strengthens pelvic floor muscles for treatment of female urinary incontinence.
The systems is an electric stimulator with a pressure sensor that detects whether the muscles are responding properly. The device guides the user using voice commands and the whole procedure takes about ten minutes, alleviating the need to visit the clinic for similar treatment. No word available about recreational off-label uses of the InTone.
InTone’s patented technology combines the benefits of gentle muscle stimulation that is similiar to a TENS unit, with voice-guided instruction and visual biofeedback that tells you exactly how strong your muscles are, so you can see proof of your progress as your muscles get stronger. Muscle stimulation and biofeedback are common treatments used in urology and gynecology clinics to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles and treat unwanted bladder leakage. Until now, these treatments generally took place in a clinic setting, forcing you to make office visits 2-3 times per week. InTone is the only product available that combines muscle stimulation and biofeedback into one device that can be used on your own, in the privacy of your home, once programmed by your clinician.
InTone is made from phthalate free, latex free, medical grade silicone to ensure patient comfort. Using a revolutionary patented design, InTone softly inflates inside you for a perfect fit; a doctor doesn’t need to size it for you. This feature eliminates any possible discomfort that other devices may have caused in the past.
InTone guides the user through her home program through use of an audible program to ensure patient success. An InTone session includes baseline readings, followed by 5 minutes muscle stimulation and concludes with 5 minutes of muscle conditioning with biofeedback.
