GE Healthcare, in collaboration with PDC out of Hartland, WI, developed a customizable MR environment to make the patient experience more pleasant. Instead of seeing a typical bare-walled room with a scanner inside, patients are handed an iPad, so they can set up a personalized theme for the room.
Music, lighting, and visuals on the ceiling can all be customized, and you can bring your own iPhone or iPad for docking if you don’t agree with the available music choices.
Features from the product page:
Patient-Centric Care – From the moment patients enter a Caring MR Suite, they are enveloped in a serene and calming environment to help minimize anxiety and increase their sense of control.
Control – Patients can select personalized lighting, music, images and video to enjoy during their scan with a tap of the suite’s iPad. PDC provides a wide variety of pre-programmed themes and the option to easily create custom content.
Personal – Patients can dock their iPhone or iPod to enjoy their own audio visual content in the ambient lighting of their choice.
Functional – With a tap of the suite’s iPad app, the suite has brilliant white LED lights and directional fixtures over the patient table for superior lighting during physician procedures. Another tap and the suite reverts to the patient’s selections.
Flexibility – The Caring MR Suite iPad app provides a variety of options to custom program specific themes.
Image Panels – Image panels on the walls and ceiling help transport the patient away from the confining space in the magnet bore. The ceiling image panel can display image slideshows or video of the patient’s choice.
Custom Designed – Caring MR Suite environments can be custom-designed to meet your specific needs, with as many or as few of the Caring MR elements as desired.
