This week at CES 2012 in Las Vegas, the X PRIZE Foundation and Qualcomm Foundation announced the launch of the Qualcomm Tricorder X PRIZE competition.
Named after the famous fictional piece of Star Trek technology that combined advanced sensor, imaging, and computing technologies, the Qualcomm Tricorder X PRIZE seeks a device that will allow a user to assess health conditions anywhere, determine if they need further professional help, and overall answer the question, “What do I do next?”
According to the Qualcomm Tricorder X PRIZE website, the winning design
…will be a tool capable of capturing key health metrics and diagnosing a set of 15 diseases. Metrics for health could include such elements as blood pressure, respiratory rate, and temperature. Ultimately, this tool will collect large volumes of data from ongoing measurement of health states through a combination of wireless sensors, imaging technologies, and portable, non-invasive laboratory replacements.
The winning team will receive a $10 million prize, and competition will be open for approximately 3 1/2 years. If you think you’ve got what it takes to revolutionize the future of healthcare, hit up the Qualcomm Tricorder X PRIZE website and let the ideas flow!
