Freescale Semiconductor out of Austin, Texas introduced a home health hub (HHH) reference platform to help medical equipment manufacturers create remote-access devices that can collect, connect and securely share health data.
The home health hub (HHH) reference platform is designed to speed and ease development for emerging telehealth applications using seamless connectivity and data aggregation to provide remote access and healthcare management. At least, that’s what the company hopes. Its technology provides multiple connectivity options to obtain data from commercially available wired and wireless healthcare devices such as blood pressure monitors, pulse oximeters, weight scales, blood glucose monitors, etc. The reference platform incorporates broad capabilities so that design engineers have flexibility in their next generation remote monitoring designs.
HHH also provides possibilities to take action with the collected data. This gives the person being monitored and caregivers (including family, friends and physicians) a way to track and monitor health status as well as provide alerts and medication reminders. This interface delivers a real-time connection to caregivers to bring ease of mind and offers comfort and safety to the person being monitored.
The device features automatic reporting of vital sign measurements, daily activity alarms, security alarms and passive monitoring of safety sensors for early detection of injury or security risks. It makes it possible to easily consult a monitoring center, medical staff, family and friends with a safe connection.
Steven Dean, manager of Freescale’s Healthcare team is cited in the press release:
The changing dynamics of the aging global population are creating an increased demand for new technologies and tools that can offer peace of mind to the family members of seniors living at home. There’s also a need to provide access to healthcare in remote and growing regions of the world to improve the quality of life for millions of people. Our new home health hub reference platform is designed to simplify development of connected medical devices and help our customers more easily address these growing needs.
Freescale’s HHH reference platform provides comprehensive functionality and can be used as the foundation for connected medical product designs, giving developers a head-start to help them get to market faster. The platform consists of the aggregator/gateway board, panic alarm sensor, quick start guide, cables and software. Freescale has partnered with Digi International to bring the HHH reference platform to market.
