Thermo Fisher Scientific introduced its second-generation platform for lab automation. This device can accurately dispense liquid volumes in a range from 100 to 875 µL in a high throughput workflow. It automatically opens sealed tubes and processes up to 1000 samples per hour, which makes routine lab work much more secure and efficient.
Manually handling samples increases the risk of accidental swapping and decreases the reproducibility of test results. Many clinical chemistry labs are automating their work processes to increase production and standardization while decreasing individual variation and contamination. This second generation device will be able to process 300 samples at a time with its robotic arms. It is fully compatible with different rack formats and reduces plastic waste by only discharging the used pipet tips. There is no movement of open vials, which reduces cross-contamination and increases biological safety.
The system comes with a user-friendly touch screen monitor on an articulating arm and supports different barcode labeling standards. Data can be directly sent to the Laboratory Information System via a network interface. Operators will be alarmed and the system is halted when errors are detected. The new system is compatible with the operator codes of the first generation CV1000.
