St. Jude Medical recently announced the European launch of the Unify Quadra cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (CRT-D). The device works with the company’s Quartet left ventricular pacing lead, which was previously introduced in Europe last year. The lead uses quadripolar technology which features four electrodes instead of the usual two, allowing for multiple pacing configurations to better manage pacing complications such as diaphragmatic pacing and potentially thwarting the need for repeat procedures for lead adjustments.
The Unify Quadra device incorporates a narrow shape allowing for smaller incisions and surgical scars and carries the industry’s smallest footprint. The Quartet pacing lead was previously featured here on Medgadget.
