Apollo Endosurgery recently announced the first successful full-thickness resection of a colonic polyp using the OverStitch Endoscopic Suturing System without the use of laparoscopic tools. The procedure was performed in Barcelona, Spain at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital. When it comes to colonic polyps, traditionally invasive surgery is needed for large polyp resections in order to adequately close large wounds. Standard endoscopes lack proper endoscopic suturing tools for such large resections.
The OverStitch Endoscopic Suturing System developed by Apollo Endosurgery allows doctors to close large wounds after colonic polyp resection without laparoscopic assistance. This device has been covered by Medgadget in the past.
