CareFusion has released the tiny ReVel ventilator that’s designed for transport applications where size, weight, and reliability are all key. The device weighs 9 1/2 pounds (4.3 Kg) and will support intubated pediatric (at least 5 Kg) and adult patients for up to four hours on a single charge.
Hot swappable batteries allow breathing support to be provided indefinitely from the pickup site of the patient all the way to the ER.
More about the ReVel from CareFusion:
The ReVel ventilator also provides monitoring and clinical tools to assist clinicians in best managing and caring for patients in hospital or alternate care facilities. Its Spontaneous Breathing Trial (SBT) technology provides data to help clinicians decide when to safely wean patients from ventilation. The device also features an integrated pulse oximeter to monitor a patient’s pulse rate and oxygen saturation level during transport situations in lieu of costly additional equipment.
- Integrating tools that help clinicians make safe predictive decisions with Spontaneous Breathing Trial (SBT), studies have found that patients who tolerate a SBT for 30-120 minutes were found to have successful discontinuation of ventilation at least 77% of the time
- Integrated Pulse Oximeter allows monitoring of patient’s SpO2 and pulse rate during transport or in lieu of central monitoring
