Ever been afraid of connecting the wrong line to your medical equipment? Giving your patients nitrous oxide instead of oxygen? As is, at least in the United States and Europe, a gas-specific pin-index system for medical gases already exists. Colder from St. Paul, Minnesota wants to go further by incorporating a gas-specific connection system with an electrical one into one unit. The company’s new valved Mini Hybrid Connector fits all wires and air lines in one connector, which reduces the risk of a misconnection. It turns the most advanced medical systems into simple plug and play devices.
Colder offers two tools to link equipment to their commodities, the Hybrid Connector and the new smaller Mini Hybrid Connector. The standard set comes with a panel mount socket and a connector with a 4’ umbilical hose containing an air tube, multiple wires and two electrical contacts. The big one can handle pressures from vacuum to 3.1 bar in a temperature range of 40 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The Mini can handle vacuum to 1.7 bar and tempetures between 40 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
The new Mini Hybrid Connector is specially developed for small electronics like dental and surgical tools, diagnostic equipment and analytical devices. Special adaptions for different equipment are also possible, think of using liquids or sensor wires. With this device it is possible to increase patient safety by matching the right gas with the right equipment. Now let’s hope they match the right procedure.
