Zyga Technology, Inc., a developer or minimally invasive surgical devices for the treatment of spinal conditions, has announced that the first European patients have been enrolled and treated with its GLYDER facet resurfacing system.
The GLYDER implant is being investigated as a long term intervention for the treatment of lumbar facet joint pain, a significant cause of chronic lower back pain. The GLYDER system is designed to adhere to the shape of the facet joint and protect its surface from abrasion and focal pressure.
Professor Hans Jorg Meisel, M.D. Ph.D., Director, Center of Neurosciences/Chair, Department of Neurosurgery, BG-Clinic Bergmannstrost, Halle, Germany is leading the study had the following to say about the initial implants:
“The GLYDER device was very easy to implant into the facet joints. Preoperatively, both of these patients had long lasting facet joint syndrome. The first postoperative examinations showed a good result concerning the patients’ lumbar pain giving us the impression of a favorable outcome from the GLYDER surgery. We look forward to continuing the study and reporting the final results,”
We can see this being a neat option in the future for those hunched-back bloggers among us.
