HealthVault, Microsoft‘s version of the personal health record, has made a long overdue step in the right direction: it has gone mobile. Even better, this has been done in two different ways: first, there is now a mobile version of the HealthVault website, which mobile device owners will be automatically redirected to when visiting the site; second, Microsoft has built client libraries which enable third parties to construct standalone HealthVault apps. The software development kit and samples for Windows Phone 7 are already available, while Apple iOS and Google Android will follow shortly. The first app that makes use of these libraries is Health Guard, developed by Akvelon and currently available in the WP7 marketplace. Currently, it displays HealthVault account data and can record measurements such as blood pressure on the go. In the future it will connect to measuring devices and will include some social media features. On a side note, HealthVault now also allows you to login with your Facebook credentials, further consolidating your online life.
