Ethicon Endo-Surgery has launched the 5mm ENDOPATH XCEL trocar with OPTIVIEW technology, a trocar that 
keeps the lens of the endoscope clean during re-insertions through the trocar. During minimal invasive procedures, bodily fluids and debris frequently smudge the lens, which is made even worse by debris getting trapped inside the trocar when the scope is removed for cleaning. The OPTIVIEW technology has a scraper that wipes debris from the endoscope shaft, after which wicking channels drive fluid towards an absorbent ring which traps the fluid. Other than that, the trocar shares the same characteristics as the other ENDOPATH XCEL trocars: it has a good retention, maintains pneumoperitoneum, has a low seal system drag force, facilitates single-handed instrument exchanges and enables further instrument reach.
