For those of you who can’t stand being around tobacco smoke, your overdramatic coughing and waving of the hand may soon become unnecessary, thanks to a new t-shirt made by a couple of NYU graduate students. Called “Warning Signs”, the t-shirt is actually a carbon monoxide detector. Two versions of the t-shirt have been made, one with a pair of lungs and another with a heart. In the presence of high levels of carbon monoxide, blue-colored “veins” begin to appear on the pink-colored organs. Originally intended to visualize the amount of pollution in the atmosphere, the technology behind the shirt could also find uses in the home to warn of a faulty heating system, or perhaps as a silent, but chic statement to a room of chain-smokers or potheads!
