Insightra Medical out of Irvine, California won the CE mark for its Patriot line of coronary dilatation balloons (CDB). The ballons are designed for performing pre and post stent dilation within coronary arteries.
From the product brochure:
The Patriot – CDB balloon is constructed to overcome the numerous challenges associated with tortuous vessels and complex lesions. During molding, balloon material is shoulder-stretched to ensure uniform thickness (no bulges or bumps) and maximize strength. A unique tri-fold wrapping system minimizes balloon profile when mounted on the catheter. Laser welding the balloon to a soft-tapered tip provides further profile reduction, enhancing crossability through vessels and lesions. In addition, a highly lubricious coating ensures easy gliding through complex lesions.
Pushability is essential for efficient, accurate delivery. Upgrading to a 304L stainless steel proximal shaft has created a new standard of pushability without sacrificing rigidity, even during long periods of storage.
The 304L stainless steel employed in the Patroit – CDB is 30% more rigid than standard 304 stainless steel. The application of precise force can advance the balloon to any desired location.
The semi-compliant material used in the Patriot – CDB allows high pressure dilation and control of balloon diameter. The balloon exhibits a wide safety margin with a nominal pressure of 6 atm and rated burst pressure of 16 atm (mean burst pressure of 20 atm). Sturdy laser welding reinforces quality construction, while the balloon’s unique shouldering formation delivers uniform thickness to transfer pressure evenly across the balloon’s entire surface.
