When we announced the Imagine Medicine contest last month, we hoped to see a showcase of photography that imagines medicine from as many angles as possible. Surely, we wanted to see medical technology in all its glory. But more than that, we wanted to see imagery that stirs the soul and shows medicine from all its angles, from our past or future, that showcases its science and its art. As you can see from the slide show below, thanks to so many contributors, we were given a difficult choice to choose the best photograph. So after reviewing all the photos, we are proud to announce that the winner of this year’s Imagine Medicine Contest is Inge Vugs for her photograph Beelitz Heilstätten; The former surgery room of the abandoned hospital in Beelitz Heilstätten. Inge, a student in Psychology and an amateur photographer from The Netherlands, will receive an Apple iPad as the grand prize winner. She tells us that she likes to visit “abandoned places because the decay and the melancholic atmosphere make a perfect scenery for interesting photos. The abandoned hospital in Beelitz Heilstätten, Germany was definitely the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. I took hundreds of pictures there, but the photo of the hospital bed is my personal favorite.”
Do take a look at all the submissions below, and we want to thanks all of you who have contributed to this exciting competition.
