We’ve been long fascinated with optogenetics, a technique to selectively trigger neural activity using genetic engineering and laser light, since it became public just a few years ago. Gero Miesenboeck of Yale University recently gave a talk at TEDGlobal 2010 describing what his team has been up to with a little help from fruit flies. Here’s a teaser: the scientists made Drosophila fly after decapitation!
