Each one of us has unique body movements while doing routine tasks such as walking, using a pencil, and even holding a remote control. By identifying who actually has their hands on the device can bring a lot of personalization to the digital consumer market. Intel researchers, helped by folks from Arizona State University, have published a white paper discussing the potential of using accelerometers built into consumer remotes to identify the user based on their signature hand movement. It seems like in the future kids will be flipping through cartoon channels while Dad’s channel selection will include ESPN and The History Channel, all using the same remote and without having to click through channels they never watch anyways.
